Big Excitement

WOW - today we had two special visitors from MORE FM - Ken and Anna.  What a surprise!  Kalissa had entered Room 3 into a competition to win a box of apples.  The children answered questions and their recordings will be played on the radio at 7.45am.  Hopefully, we can get a copy and post it on our blog.

Maths - numbers and patterns

We have been practicing skip counting.  The children have also had to problem solve in groups.

On Monday we discussed wheels on a beetle (a v-dub beetle).  In groups the children created a graph to show how many wheels would be on 5 beetles.

It would be great if you could practise skip counting with your kids in 2s, 5s and 10s as far as you can go.  If that is too easy, try skip counting backwards.

Is Big Foot real?

This was the topic of discussion one day last week when I returned to class after lunch.  So we spent the afternoon exploring some questions we had...

Is big foot a person dressed up?
We think...yes because on the video big foot looks real.
How big is big foot?
We think...he is about 3m tall.
We think...he is as big as a tree.
How big are big foots footprints?
We think...they are about 3.8m long because one of Deno's friends told him so.
Is big foot big?
We think...he is big because we have seen pictures on you-tube.
Is big foot real or made up?
We think...he is real because we have seen him on a video.
Is it true that there are two big foots - a bad one and a good one?
We think...yes because Ethan's mum said there was a good one and a bad one.

Does Mrs Hughes think big foot is real?
No she doesn't. Anyone can dress up as a hairy looking ape. Anybody can make footprints as big as big foots. Nobody has ever caught one and we are pretty clever at catching things.

KC Award Winners

Congratulations Ellie and Fern!!

Relating to Others
Fern
I am always impressed with the way you quietly help and support others in their learning.  During group work, you make sure everyone is included.  It doesn’t matter if you are with your friends or not, you treat everyone with the same amount of respect.  You always have your empathy switch turned on.

Managing Self
Ellie
You are an independent worker who is able to follow instructions and complete work to a high standard.  You did a fantastic job of your colour poem, by paying close attention to the model, using your own curiosity about language and staying on task to complete the job all by yourself.  Well done!

Malcom's Writing

Well done Malcom.

Sleep-in

This morning my brother had a big sleep in and when he was sleeping I asked my dad if I could play on the tablet and he said "YES".  So I got the tablet and I started playing on it.  The game I was playing was Minion rush.  Minion rush is a game when you swipe your finger up the tablet if you want to jump and if you want to roll you swipe your finger down the tablet.  Then FINALLY my brother Kyle woke up and he asked me if he could play on the tablet.  But I didn't want him to because I was in the middle of the game.  So I paused the game and I had a fight with my brother.  By Ellie

Colour Poems

Just in case you missed assembly...

Room 3 have been discussing creative ways to write.  This week we explored imagery through colour poetry.  We illustrated our poems using a range of strategies.  Our illustrations had to support the images we had created in our poems.  We could choose an image from google images, magazines, create digital pictures on ActivInspire or draw.  We presented these poems in assembly.  Enjoy!

Pinkalicious

Today during book review, Grace presented her favourite story called Pinkalicious.
This sparked a few questions. Why does she like pink? Pink is her favourite colour. Why does she eat a lot of cupcakes? She loves them more than vegetables. How does she turn pink? She eats too many pink cupcakes. Why does she have to eat green food? She got back to normal - back to her own self. Why does she wear a crown. To match her pink fairy princess dress.

KC Awards

Here are the fabulous KC Award recipients for the last two weeks. Congratulations!!! Participating and Contributing Olivia I enjoyed hearing your news from home this morning. You answered our questions and gave us more information when we asked for it. You have also been making lots of contributions in your reading group. We love hearing your ideas. Using language, symbols and text Aimee It is great to see you working independently at writing time, thinking about all the sounds you can hear in a word as you record it. Likewise during Reading, you are using your knowledge of the alphabet to help you decode tricky words. Good job. Using language, symbols and text Grace I really enjoyed reading your description of your Dad for Father’s Day. I can hear your personal voice in your writing and I love the way you are always exploring ways you can make your writing more interesting. Your Dad will love it! Managing Self Amayah Thank you so much Amayah for the contributions you make to Room 3. You listen carefully and follow instructions. You are often the first person ready and waiting on the mat. I love the way you take responsibility and help me to tidy Room 3. We are lucky to have you as a member of our class.
