Seasons

What is a season?  Why do we have seasons?  What is our favourite season?  How do we know seasons are changing?  What is special about each season?

These are questions we have been looking at through our discovery over the last two weeks.

We have made a four-seasons tree.  We have written about our favourite season.  We have used playdough to model the earth orbiting around the sun.  This week we learnt that seasons are caused by the earth's tilt.

We discovered some giant autumn leaves up our bush track.

Let's get active

These photo's were taken a week ago, after we had been visited by the fabulous team running the get, set, go programme.  Every day over the last week, rain or shine, the children have taken it upon themselves to set up a circuit outside.  They have made good use of this circuit before school and during breaks.  In fact, we had to move the circuit slightly because they had worn a mud patch.  It is great seeing kids outside, being fit and active, and taking responsibility for creating their own opportunities.

Kotahitanga - Our Production Song

Kotahitanga has a strong beat and rhythm.  Today we listened to the music and experimented with moving our bodies in time.  We talked about how we can use music and dance to communicate a message or to tell a story.  Our story for the production is Te Ika a Maui - The Fish of Maui.  How could we make our bodies move like water?  How could we show our audience Maui pulling up the North Island while moving in time to the music?  Could we make our movement more dramatic?  Could we take movement we have learned through haka, poi and sticks to include Maori culture?  We can't wait to try this again.

Autumn brainstorming

After going on an Autumn walk we got into groups to brainstorm words we could use to describe Autumn.
We also had to think about our role in a group.
What skills did we need to work in a co-operative group?
What does it mean to be a good listener?
What does it mean to be a good communicator?
What does it mean to take turns and share?

What do you notice when you look at these photo's?  Maybe you could leave us a comment...

Silly Sentences

Well done Tyra! I love the way you worked independently making your silly sentences during reading today. All of your sentences had a capital letter and a fullstop. Good job! I wonder if anyone else at Frankley, or at home, can change your words to make a new silly sentence? Maybe they could leave their sentence in comments...

Lila's Holiday Story

Hola! Abuela came over from Australia to see us.  She bought us alot of presents. Sometimes I sleep with her and she pulled a funny face when she was sleeping!  We played a new game called Candy Crush. Abuela taught me and Mum how to make paella. Abuela is fun to play with.  And I love her.  Love Lila.

You are so lucky getting to spend time with Abuela.  Paella is delicious!  Did you like it?  Not long to go now before school starts.  I can't wait to hear more of your adventures with Abuela.  Mrs H

Ryan's Holiday Story

I went to stay at my nana and poppa’s house by myself. They took me to Pizza Hut and I got a meatlovers pizza with bbq sauce for tea.
My buddy Samuel came to my house for a play. His mum brought two hockey sticks and a ball. We played hockey on the back lawn and we also played miniball, rugby, Wii and on the computer.  I was very tired after he went home.
My dad took me to watch Tukapa v NPOBs and Tukapa won 24-13.  It was fun watching adults play.

What a lucky boy getting to stay at your Nana's by yourself.  I bet she spoiled you!  I was thrilled to hear that Tukapa won against NPOB last weekend.  They're top of the table.  I wonder if they will win the competition this year?  I think they might.  Enjoy the last few days of the holidays.  Mrs H

Deno's Holiday Story

In the school holidays we went to see the National Junior/Adult    Motocross Championships.
This was at the Barrett Road Motocross dirt track.
Dad took my brothers and me.
A guy broke his arm. He went straight up in the air and he landed on someone's helmet.
A guy was way in the lead. His number was 538.
Another guy touched his helmet while he was doing a big jump.
I had lots of fun.
BY DENO

Ouch -I bet that hurt! Those motorcross riders are dare devils. I hope you and your brothers have been careful in your backyard and haven't been copying too many of their tricks.  Enjoy the last few days of your holiday.  Mrs H

Harrison's Holiday Story

Me and Dad went on a blow-up boat with our cousin Mathijs. It was at Nga Motu Beach. We got towed out to the water ski buoy. Dad paddled the surf board out. I was holding on to the leg rope. We got wet. Tomorrow we are going to Chipmunks. Today we are going to ToyWorld to spend a voucher I got for my birthday.
See you next week.

From Harrison

I bet it was exciting being towed out to the water ski buoy - that's a long way out!  Good on Dad for towing you all that way.  It sounds like you are keeping very busy these holidays.   I wonder what you bought at Toyworld with your voucher?  Mrs H
